FROM
CONCEPT TO COMMERCIAL REALITY |
|
| |
- Newtec demonstrated
the first satellite interactive terminal based on DVB-RCS in the
year 1998 at IBC in Amsterdam.
- Newtec participated in the DVB-RCS standardization
process at various stages in the DVB Committee.
- Subsequently, Newtec decided to develop DVB-RCS
based end-to-end network system called 2 Way-Sat.
- The first DVB-RCS network was set up in the
year 2002 in Europe to support 3,500 SITs which will increase
to 20,000 by year 2003.
- Newtec is setting up a Network in Hongkong
(Asia) for an ISP to provide 6000 Satellite Interactive Terminals
(SITS).
- Newtec now provides commercially proven technology
for 2 Way-Sat worldwide.

DVB-RCS:
Open standard technology and its benefits |

- DVB-group :

Newtec
actively involved in the standardisation of DVB-RCS (Return Channel
via Satellite) EN 301 790
DVB-RCS
Interoperability Group (ESA):ensuring the Open Standard
Open
Standard = Cost Effective equipment for high volume markets
- These standards have been accepted by European
Telecommunications
Standards Institute (ETSI), which has paved the way for interactive
broadband multimedia applications for 2 way communication over
satellite.
- It is a recognized fact that privately owned
developments (proprietary
standards)
have limited market potential and these will remain high priced
alternatives.
- DVB-RCS will be of global standards and will
attract various
manufacturers
active in the satellite communication industry, thereby bringing
in competition and cost-reduction.

INTER
OPERABILITY WITH SATLABS |
2 WAY-SAT
VALIDATION PLATFORM
|
| |
2 Way-Sat is fully compliant
with the DVB-RCS standards. SATLABS have been set up to assure interoperability
of DVB-RCS standards and it has been set up by various satellite
companies involved in DVB-RCS standardization, namely Eutel Sat,
ESA (European Space Agency) and SES (Societe Europeenne des Satellites)
|
 |
2
Way-Sat VALIDATION PLATFORM |
| |
- Newtec makes continuous efforts to achieve
further improvements in its
2 Way-Sat system performance.
- Newtec has therefore set up a validation platform
which is an identical copy of an operational 2 Way-Sat HUB station
along with SITs. This is a 'Satellite-Simulator' which is present
in the validation platform with the exception of satellite link.
This provides confidence during development, production and enhancement
of features for 2 Way-Sat customers, but they can also verify
DVB-RCS standards on this

SCALABLE
TO YOUR NEEDS : |
2 WAY-SAT SCALABILITY
|
| |
One of the unique features of
2 Way-Sat systems is its scalebility which makes the growth possible
as and when required. These are the following systems available
from Newtec.
- 2 Way-Sat light:
Fully redundant complaint and capable of handling an IP Broadband
Access Network upto a maximum of 1000 SITS.
- 2 Way-Sat plus:
Has the capability for enhancement from 4000 to 100,000 SITS,
with all the above features as listed in 2 way-sat light.
- 2 Way-Sat consumer:
Is designed to support upto 0.1 to 2.0 million SITS. Ideally
such systems would be possible in future with more than 100 transponders
for satellite with multiple spot beams in Ku-band.

LAST
MILE TECHNOLOGY - A BOTTLENECK |
|
| |
The illustration shows
last mile technology for various applications. The last mile technology
still remains a bottleneck for today's Broadband Networks and end
customers. Satellite based systems and more particularly DVB-RCS
is the best option for urban, semi-urban, residential, rural and
remote areas. DVB-RCS technology and more particularly 2 Way-Sat
has tremendous potential for providing the benefits to the remote
areas of India. In addition to this, it is the best technology for
"Interactive education and telemedicine applications".

SATELLITE INTERACTIVE TERMINALS (SIT) |
|
| |
The SIT is the User
Terminal which consists of an Outdoor Unit (ODU)
with a typical 75 or 90 cm Satellite Dish fitted with a combined
Transceiver unit.
Newtec is able to deliver various combinations supporting transmit
and receive schemes in Ku-,Ka- or C-band to provide reliable services
in all regions of the world.
The Indoor Unit(IDU) consists of a typical PC-size unit
to be connected to the user-PC or LAN-server.
The SIT supports incoming transport streams up to 110Mbit/s (4-8Mbit/s
IP traffic per SIT), while it transmits data at 2Mbit/s (for example
in a 2 Watt SSPA configuration on Ku-Band transponder).
All communications are based on the IP protocol, providing a transparent
environment, which supports standard Internet protocols.
Optionallly, value added IP protocol services can be provided such
as TCP acceleration, web caching, E-mail services and enhanced security
by means of the industry standard IP-SEC and its associated key
distribution mechanism.
